Qatar's deepest accessible cavern — a rare geological formation beneath the desert.
Formed between 325,000 and 500,000 years ago, Dhal Al Misfir is composed of fibrous gypsum crystals. At 40 metres deep, it's the deepest accessible cavern in Qatar — open to the public and rehabilitated with safe access paths and protective barriers.
The cave is known for emitting a soft, moon-like glow due to its fibrous gypsum deposits, which create a faint phosphorescence.
The same gypsum deposits also form "Desert Roses" — clusters of rose-shaped crystals unique to formations like this one.
The temperature inside is noticeably cooler than the desert heat outside, and safe access paths with protective barriers make the site straightforward to visit.
